I usually tell people that I’ve been a freelance writer for over ten years because I love flexibility and I love restaurants. I love restaurants so much that I’m a freelancer who writes about restaurants, often while sitting in one. And while I’ve never chosen to organise my life into predictable routines, the rhythm to which my days and weeks bounced along before lockdown could be traced through the time I spent in Joburg coffee shops, cafés and restaurants.
On Wednesdays, the occasional hump day blues, writer’s block or cabin fever would have me seeking the same cure: a calamari salad and a window seat overlooking 7th Avenue at The Whippet in Melville.
