CARAMELIZED HAM & SWISS BUNS

My next-door neighbor shared this recipe with me, and I simply cannot improve it! The combo of poppy seeds, ham and cheese, horseradish, and brown sugar makes it so delicious.- Iris Weihemuller, Baxter, MN

Prep: 25 min. + chilling Bake: 30 min. • Makes: 1 dozen .

1 pkg. (12 oz.) Hawaiian sweet rolls

12 cup horseradish sauce

34 lb. sliced deli ham

6 slices Swiss cheese, halved

12 cup butter, cubed

2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion

2 Tbsp. brown sugar

1 Tbsp. spicy brown mustard

2 tsp. poppy seeds

1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

14 tsp. garlic powder

1. Arrange bottom halves of rolls in a greased 9x9-in. baking pan. Spread the cut side of roll toms with horseradish sauce. Layer with ham and cheese; replace tops.

2. In a small skillet, heat butter over medium-high heat. Add onion; cook and stir until tender, 1-2 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients. Pour over rolls. Refrigerate, covered, several hours or overnight.

3. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake, covered, 25 minutes. Bake, uncovered, until golden brown, 5-10 minutes longer.
