Sabrewing Unveils Prototype ‘Rhaegal-A' Air Cargo Like No Other

The Rhaegal is a new generation of regional cargo UAV that offers high-efficiency, all-weather operation with vertical landing and take-off (VTOL) capabilities. It carries a payload of up to 1 000lbs/54 kg over a distance of 1 000nm/1 850km with a cruise speed of 180 knots / 330 kph.

The cargo bay is easily accessed through the nose and can carry standard cargo pallets or bulk cargo using a convertible roller floor, thereby establishing the Rhaegal as an advanced, versatile and efficient air cargo solution.

The aircraft is dubbed Rhaegal, after a dragon from the “Game of Thrones” series, and it’s meant to fly itself one day. At this time, it will require a remote pilot.

De Reyes and Sabrewing chief technology officer Oliver Garrow conducted the live-streamed roll-out from their “Dragonworks” facility in Hayward, California. De Reyes explained that Rhaegal-A is “strictly a test vehicle to test the ability of our engineering models to scale correctly,” and will provide a “parallel development path” for the larger Rhaegal-B.craft

Some US military helicopters and aircraft used in medical evacuations can fly at speeds comparable to the Sabrewing drone’s 230-mile-per-hour (370 km/h top speed).
