A rare blue carp has been caught by an angler on his first ever visit to Hawkhurst Fish Farm.
Bandan Pizzy had a shock when he caught the 36 lb non-native blue carp from the complex’s £100-a-year Specimen Lake, in Kent.
Blue carp – also called black or snail carp, with the Latin name Mylopharyngodon piceus – come from China. They can reach around 80 lb.
Hawkhurst also has a second blue carp in the lake, at around 40 lb, from an historic stocking. They are thought to be the only two of the species in any UK fishery.
