Ask Cosmo Anything

Q. My ex and I had a crazy breakup. After months of not speaking, we now smile when we see each other. What impression will he get if I ask him to catch up over coffee?

A: He’ll think you’re still into him. If that’s the case, fine. But if you’re not, you’d better clarify what that latte date means from the start. Say something like, ‘Hey, I know it was the right thing for us to break up, but now that it’s over, I’d like to grab a quick coffee and chat’.

Q: Are there any body language cues I can track to know if a first date is interested in me?

A: If he can’t take his eyes off you and leans in close to hear what you’re saying, he’s probably feeling you. On the other hand, if he crosses his arms and doesn’t make much eye contact, he’s likely either not into you or so nervous that he’s adopted a defensive position. That said, try not to overthink it or place a tonne of value in what his movements are saying, since laser-focusing on non-verbal cues may take you out of the moment.
