The larrikin adman couldn’t hide his joy as he walked hand in hand with the Olympic legend

They have been close friends for more than 40 years, and last week John Singleton and Dawn Fraser were bubbling over with happiness as they kissed and cuddled like lovestruck teenagers at the Magic Millions Carnival on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

“He just loves her to bits – he always has and always will,” reveals one friend, who says the bond between John and Dawn has only strengthened as they’ve grown older, with the two spending more and more time together.

Singo first fell in love with Dawn as a 15-year-old schoolboy watching her smash her rivals at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where she won the 100m freestyle gold medal in world record time.

MUTUAL ADMIRATION

“I think he was in awe of Dawn from that moment on,” says PR agent Max Markson, a long-time friend. “It started as admiration for her amazing sporting achievements but their bond has strengthened over the years.
