Radio host Kate reveals the touching reason she moved her family to Italy

She makes millions laugh on her Hit Network radio show, but privately Kate Langbroek has endured the heartbreaking ordeal of nursing her young son through a four-year-battle with leukaemia, not knowing whether he would survive.

Fortunately her eldest son, Lewis, not only beat the killer disease but has thrived to become a “healthy and beautiful” teenager, with Kate just last month celebrating “all the miracles” that kept her 15-year-old son alive.

And it was the horror of almost being robbed of her boy that inspired Kate, 53, and her husband, engineer Peter Lewis, to pack up their lives in Melbourne and move their four children to Italy earlier this year.

“There seemed something really life-affirming about having an adventure together as a family,” a relaxed Kate revealed from her new home in Rome, during an interview on The Project last week. “For so long we couldn’t go anywhere, we couldn’t travel anywhere. I mean we went to the hospital, we went home.”
