Don’t let human rights lawyer Amal Clooney’s impeccable sartorial chops and Hollywood marriage 70 fool you into thinking she’s just another pretty face.

- Karen Tee

Saving The World One Case At A Time

IN AN AGE OF OVER SHARING KARDASHIANS AND VAPID “INFLUENCERS”, one famous personality, Amal Clooney, 38, stands out from the crowd. A reluctant celebrity if there ever was one, she barely grants press interviews, has no social media presence, and hardly makes appearances at red carpet events. Yet, she is arguably the most famous human rights lawyer of our times.

With her head-turning patrician features and cascading raven locks, she is a favourite of paparazzi photographers, while her every (designer) outfit change is breathlessly catalogued in the media. And yes, she is also married to Hollywood actor George Clooney.

But beyond the gloss and glamour, Clooney is unequivocally deserving of global admiration and is a worthy role model for young women – just not for her posh wardrobe, or her celebrity husband, on whom the attention is often centered. Instead, look to her activism and tireless quest as a lawyer to seek justice for countries, groups and individuals who have faced persecution and unspeakable breaches of human rights for inspiration.

A VOICE FOR THE REPRESSED

The Oxford-educated Clooney, who specialises in international law and human rights, is among the world’s most eminent in her field. Most recently, Clooney, who also speaks fluent French and Arabic, has taken on what may be the most challenging case of her career yet. She is representing the Yazidi community, a minority ethnic Kurdish group, who have been a target of genocide by terror outfit Isis.
