Archie's Day Of Joy
The Australian Women's Weekly
|August 2019
Prince Harry and Meghan looked totally smitten with baby son Archie following his private and intimate christening, writes Juliet Rieden.
.
Exactly two months after he was born, Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor donned the historic royal christening robe of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin and took his place in the royal annals. And from this stunning family photograph taken in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, where the Duke and Duchess’s formal wedding poses were also taken, baby Archie’s christening looked like a very traditional affair. The photo was posted on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s official Instagram account and handed out to media including The Weekly a few hours after the ceremony. But, as we have come to expect, this very modern royal couple also broke the House of Windsor mold, just a little bit, but enough to have everyone talking.
Prince Harry and Meghan wanted to ensure that this personal rite of passage for their firstborn son was as private and intimate as possible and went to considerable lengths to make this happen. Even though members of the public lined the streets outside Windsor Castle, there was no people’s celebration for the new royal baby, who after all does not have a title, but is a private citizen. Prince Harry and Meghan opted not to use a “His Royal Highness” address and have ruled out a courtesy title for their son, so he really is plain Master Archie who they hope can lead as “normal” a life as possible despite his position as seventh in line to the throne.
