‘It’s not going to be easy for Clay’
Controversial drama 13 Reasons Why becomes a murder mystery in its third series
The first season of Netflix’s teen drama 13 Reasons Why centred on high-school student Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who killed herself after sending out 13 audio cassettes explaining why she was driven to take her own life.
In the tapes, 17-year-old Hannah detailed the impact that specific individuals had had on her life and gave a horrific account of bullying and sexual assault at Liberty High.
The series, based on Jay Asher’s novel, got everyone talking – in fact, it became one of the most tweeted-about shows in 2017. But it also courted controversy with accusations of glamorising suicide (the suicide scene in the finale was later removed by Netflix) – which its creators have strongly refuted.
