David Tennant has a holiday from hell in the US version of Camping, from Girls creator Lena Dunham

Fever Pitch

David Tennant shows off his American accent this week when he joins Jennifer Garner in Sky Atlantic’s new US comedy drama Camping, executive produced by Girls creator Lena Dunham.

Based on Julia Davis’ UK original, shown in 2016, the eight-part series, which starts with a double bill, sees obsessively organised Kathryn (Garner) invite friends and family on a ‘back to nature’ birthday camping trip for her husband Walt (Tennant).

But soon after arriving at the Brown Bear Lake campsite, the group’s bonds are tested, and heightened emotions threaten to ruin the weekend. We met up with Tennant, 47, to hear more…

How did you become involved with Camping? I’m a huge fan of Julia Davis, who created the original version. It starred all these great people, including Steve Pemberton, who is a friend of mine, and Vicki Pepperdine. But I’d missed it on TV, so when I was offered the role of Walt, I had to seek it out. I watched the original in one sitting and I thought it was dark and twisted and all the things that Julia does so brilliantly. After that, I spoke to Lena Dunham over Skype. It sounded like too good an opportunity to miss.

How does this show differ from the British version?
