As the vet drama returns, James only has eyes for Helen

All Creatures Great and Small Thursday, Channel 5 HD, 9pm
It’s springtime and the lambs are frolicking in the Yorkshire Dales when a new series of All Creatures Great and Small begins this week, starring Nicholas Ralph as vet James Herriot.
The drama picks up in 1938, following the 2020 Christmas special when farmer’s daughter Helen Alderson (Rachel Shenton) decided she couldn’t go through with her wedding to the aristocrat Hugh.
With Helen now single, James has a new optimism about his chances.
