The cast and crew of Marvel’s Runaways talk comics lore and diversity

The Kids Are All Right

Marvel's latest has finally made it to UK TV, granted several months late, and it could be the breath of fresh air we’ve been waiting for. Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Marvel’s Runaways follows a group of misfit teenagers that form the titular superhero team after discovering their parents are involved in a secret criminal organisation known as the Pride.

The fact that Runaways comic was created in the early Noughties meant the show didn’t have decades’ worth of lore to adhere to: “I think it gives us a bit more flexibility in some ways,” says Schwartz. “That being said, we were really sensitive in adapting the comic to honour the spirit of the original and, at the same time, to make sure we’re making it work for a television series.”
