Nvidia offers stream gaming to all. Neil Mohr activates Suspicious Mode…

Nvidia GeForce NOW

We weren’t hugely impressed with Google’s Stadia game streaming service, so when Nvidia announced its GeForce NOW streaming service would support Chrome OS and offer an hour-long session a day for free, we had to take a look.

Unlike Google Stadia the Nvidia GeForce NOW service piggy-backs on your existing gaming accounts – largely Steam, Epic and Ubisoft’s UPlay along with some online offerings such as World of Tanks. It doesn’t provide any games in itself; you must already own any it supports via a supported gaming service.

It’s a bit confusing at first and that’s played out when you launch a game; it has to stand up a “gaming rig” and (mostly with Steam) you see the Steam interface from where you log in, “install” the game (this is instant) and run it. Not the slickest offering by any means, but it works and has to be done just once. It also means Nvidia can provide a more flexible gaming service.
