Audiences were introduced to Naya Rivera in 2009 through her role as feisty cheerleader Santana Lopez on Glee, but since giving birth to her son in September 2015, the actress, dancer and kids’ clothing designer has been laser-focused on her role as a mum.

“First and foremost, everything I do is for Josey,” she told WHO’s sister publication People magazine in 2018. “It’s a sweet bond that we share together.”

That bond was shattered on July 8 after a trip to Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Rivera, 33, and her 4-year-old son, who she shares with her actor ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, 37, rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon out on the water together.
