During the colder months, we’re hit with an onslaught of remedies claiming to ‘boost your immune system’, ranging from vitamin C and chicken soup to various essential oils, powders and supplements. But what actually works to keep you in the best shape for fighting off colds, flus and infections? We asked Jay Horvat, Associate Professor of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Newcastle and HMRI Australia.

“While some people have genetically inherited immune deficiencies, in general, poor health is one of the major causes for a compromised immune system,” says Horvat. “Maintaining good health is key to cultivating strong immunity. The following is a good list of how to do that.”
