The grand Mauritius Cinema Week was indeed a plush affair replete with the presence of top stars from Bollywood and Hollywood, interactive Master Classes helmed by top directors, writers and actors, screening of fab films - and to top it, held at beautiful locations in the picturesque island of Mauritius. Sumita Chakraborty travels to this idyllic paradise island for this mega extravaganza, and comes out feeling super ecstatic.

From the ‘70s cult film Chandi Sona to the current super hit Judwa 2; from Rajesh Khanna’s blockbuster Souten to the Hollywood thriller Serenity starring Mathew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, the gorgeous paradise island of Mauritius has always been the idyllic location for shooting films for producers and directors. And so in tandem with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius, the Mauritius Cinema Week was organised with the theme of East Meets West to showcase international films on freedom and independence, and felicitate outstanding actors whose contributions to films have made them stand out amongst the milieu.

Stardust too was honoured to be a part of the contingent of the international media which included top newspapers, magazines and social media forums from across the world, and get a bird’s eye view of this fabulous extravaganza.

From the window of the Air Mauritius plane all poised to land, I could see paradise.
