Dilip Kumar End Of An Era!

Tragedy King, an actor par excellence, an inspiration… thespian Dilip Kumar was one of the finest actors the Hindi film industry has seen. Hugely respected, the superstar was revered by his colleagues, admired by critics and garnered huge adulations from his fans. On July 7, 2021, Dilip Kumar at the ripe age of 98 left for his heavenly abode after a severe bout of pneumonia, leaving his bereaved wife Saira Banu and his other relatives shocked and in tears.

Way back, I had watched his film Shakti where he was pitted against the ruling actor of that time Amitabh Bachchan, … and I was a huge fan of Mr Bachchan. However, Dilip Kumar just aced it in the role of a tortured father unable to bond with his son, and, how! His exquisitely nuanced performance had the right balance. His powerful histrionics was amazing. Dilip Kumar had set the yardstick and for the other actors, that was indeed a tall feat to emulate. And yes, I became a huge fan.
