Ritu Beri's Goan Rhapsody

Hello! travels to Goa and visits the designer’s private mansion – an aesthetician’s delight and her labour of love

Entering Ritu Beri’s Goa home is no ordinary experience. The house – spread across 4,000 square metres – is a sprawling manor that reeks of old-world Goa as one travels from room to room. Originally built over a century ago, this Portuguese home not only resonates with Goa’s verdant tropical environment, bordering a forest on one side, but also has a distinct appearance evoking Ritu’s own creative sensibilities. In fact, Ritu chose to call it Amor – an abode that has love at its heart. From the way it has been nurtured to new life, Amor indeed throbs with warmth and provides a perfect escape for the Delhi-based family. Ritu, her industrialist husband, Bobby Chadda, and daughter, Gia, often travel to Goa to enjoy the bliss of their exotic holiday home that, in its own unique way, represents the yin and yang of history and modernism in equal doses. Ritu shares her journey in setting up Amor with HELLO!

When did you set up this Goa home? When was it built?

“We bought the property in October 2013. I fell in love with it at first sight, so I christened it Amor. It is over 100-years-old and it felt like it was waiting for me to own it. It is an absolute treat, to behold... Once we bought the house, I spent time doing it up and made it into a home.”
