Broadband Speed Counts

Recent studies peg India at a lowly 105th in the world on Internet broadband speeds. While India ranks 10th glob-ally in fixed broadband sub base numbers, the penetration is hardly 2% ranking India 137th globally. Studies time and again, have shown that increase in fixed broadband penetration leads to increase in GDP growth. A 10-percentage point increase in fixed broadband is generating 1.35% increase in per capita GDP for developing countries. Therefore, from high tech innovation to financial inclusion, and from public safety to healthcare broadband Internet connectivity have the potential to transform India into a digitally empowered society.
