Emiko Jean's Tokyo Dreaming is a sweet sequel to Tokyo Ever After that focuses on following one's own heart. The plot is when JapaneseAmerican Izumi Tanaka learned her father was the Crown Prince of Japan, she became a princess overnight. Now, she's overcome conniving cousins, salacious press, and an imperial scandal to finally find a place she belongs. She has a perfect bodyguard turned boyfriend. This is the second book in the Tokyo Ever After series, and while it can be read on its own, you'll get a lot more out of it if you read the first book first, 'Tokyo Ever After'. The story compares Izumi's post-high school life with those of her pals. Izumi's coming-of-age story was well-represented by the juxtaposition. This book has echoes of The Princess Diaries, but it's more current with contemporary dilemmas and decisions, and the situations feel very real.
