Laser Cutting Offers Substantial Benefits. It Can Be Customised To Cut Any Material Of Any Thickness To Exact Specifications

- Bindu Gopal Rao

Fabricating Techniques

FABRICATORS HAVE CONSTANTLY PUSHED equipment-makers to improve laser cutting machinery, while maintaining growing demand. Machine builders have toiled away in their labs and test facilities, finding solutions to limitations as they pushed the limits. Often those solutions came in the form of changes to the cutting head and the optics it housed. In fact, these components have been the subject of more R&D than any other component of a laser cutting machine. Each of the major advances in head and optics design has been critical to laser cutting’s ongoing viability.

In terms of design for manufacturing, laser-cutting technology can have a beneficial effect on any product. Cost and quality are two major influences on the marketability of any product, and laser cutting allows for high-quality components at a lower cost overall, therefore making it possible to offer a more affordable, better quality product. Laser cutting does offer some substantial benefits to the manufacturing process. For starters, laser cutters can be customised to cut nearly any material of any thickness to exact specifications. It’s fast, accurate, and can be quickly and easily adjusted to meet the changing needs of the market or a specific product. It is also a cleaner process than most cutting options, as it requires little to no secondary cleanup.
