There were no power generation capacity added during July 2017, according to a report released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

During the month, the power generation capacity addition target was set at 68.5 megawatt (MW). Meanwhile, power generation capacity addition during the period April-July 2017 stood at 3,926 MW compared to 2,340 MW during the corresponding period of 2016.

Of the total installed capacity of 330,153.65 MW in the country as on July 31, 2017, thermal power generation capacity stood at 220,455.88 MW (194,432.88 MW coal-fired, 25,185.38 MW gas-fired and 837.63 MW diesel-fired). Nuclear power generation capacity stood at 6,780 MW, while hydro generation stood at 44,614.42 MW and renewables at 58,303.35 MW.

July power generation up 32% m-o-m

India’s total power generation increased by 31.92 percent to 405.889 billion units (BU) during July 2017, compared to 307.661 BU during June 2017, according to CEA data.

Thermal power generation during July 2017 shot up by 30 percent to 340.108 BU compared to 261.299 BU in June 2017. Further, hydro power generation was up by 42.6 percent at 51.688 BU in July 2017, compared to 36.243 BU in June 2017. Nuclear power generation in July 2017 stood at 12.086 BU, up 33.4 percent over 9.060 BU in the month ago period.

On a year-on-year basis, India’s total power generation during July 2017 was up 3.76 percent over 391.179 BU in July 2016. Thermal power generation was up 2.77 percent as against 330.927 BU in the corresponding month of the previous year. Hydro power generation was up 12.58 percent compared to 45.913 BU in July 2016. Meanwhile, nuclear power generation in July 2017 was down 2.21 percent against 12.359 BU in the year ago period.
