A new berth in Preveza sets up Venture II and her owners for a summer of exploration in Greece

After four incredible years cruising around Croatia with a skipper, my husband Peter and I are excited about continuing this coming season motoring around the Ionian in northwestern Greece managing Venture II on our own. Following extensive research, we identified Corfu as our preferred mooring place, mainly due to ease of travel to and from the UK. I proceeded to contact every marina I could find in the vicinity of Corfu, but was repeatedly told no annual berths existed for our 65 foot Fleming, so we started setting our sights further south for availability. We finally settled on a marina and paid a deposit. All of that was to change when we discovered the little known town of Preveza, our second destination after arriving in Greece. Preveza did not get much of a write up in our old version of Rod Heikell’s Greek Waters Pilot, but we decided it was a good stopping point along the way to our new annual berth. However, after finding Preveza we felt that our inability to obtain a berth in Corfu had been a blessing in disguise.
