A plethora of wildlife, excellent local cuisine and wallpaper worthy vis-tas are just some of the things that make the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand one of India’s truly hidden gems. For me though, the region stands out for some of the best driving roads in the country. From wide-sweeping two-lane hill roads to the technical single tracks that ascend steeply into the clouds, the Kumaon region has it all. Its proximity to the national capital makes it tremendously accessible. A weekend to spare is more than enough to get your fill of everything that the Kumaon has to offer. On one such weekend, I was lucky enough to have the brand new Kia Sonet with the 1.0-litre turbocharged motor and the iMT gearbox, a combination I was itching to try out in the technical loops that the Kumaon had to offer.
