David Hockney's pouncing cat inspires intimations of doom in Sujith S. N's new works, reveals Meera Menezes.
Sujith S.N. Emphasizing Stillness. Watercolour on paper. 11" x 15". 2021. Images courtesy of the artist and Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi.
In David Hockney's painting Picture Emphasizing Stillness, two figures appear to be engrossed in a conversation, blissfully unaware of a cheetah that is hurtling at them from above. This tension-filled work is one of the inspirations for Sujith S. N's online exhibition Act II: Emphasizing Stillness presented by Delhi's Vadehra Art Gallery from the 18th of August to the 18th of September in a new format titled, VIRTUAL.
The series aims to showcase short projects by artists using immersive technologies in continuation of the hybrid online-offline exhibition model that has become the norm during this pandemic.
