Shooting bodies call on members to take part in a new consultation on general licences just announced by Defra and Natural England

A consultation on the future of the general licences in England has been launched by Defra and Natural England.

The 12-week public online survey follows a failed legal action by Wild Justice in the spring, which led to a temporary suspension of the licences.

In a statement announcing the launch, Defra said it was intended to “ensure the licensing system is robust, striking the right balance between the protection of wild birds and the activities that people such as landowners and farmers need to carry out for specific purposes, such as protecting livestock or crops, or for conservation purposes”.
