Why 30 Is My Magic Number
Cage & Aviary Birds
|January 31, 2018
In part one of his 2018 breeding season update, TONY EDWARDS relays his plans for the colours in his birdroom, paying particular attention to his long-established chocolate & whites, fawn & whites, dilute fawn & whites and albinos.

BENGALESE
BEFORE each breeding season, I try to decide on the number of pairs of each colour I am going to start with. 2017 was different to most previous years, because I decided to focus heavily on one colour: chocolate & whites.
I used half of my 36 breeding cages just for them, with nearly all my hens of breeding age and satisfactory condition being utilised. I largely achieved my objective and now, with a good stock level of decent quality birds, I have dropped the number of chocolate & white pairs that I set initially. Although I still might breed with a large number of pairs, these will be staggered throughout the year.
