Holiday time is fishing time!
It is time for that well-deserved rest at the end of another hectic year and many of our anglers will be heading to their favourite fishing spot. Neville Barnard recently visited Jeffreys Bay where he and his fellow-anglers targeted raggies and landed a monster kob of 52,9 kg. In the article “In a Nutshell” Neville also gives a detailed description of the various kinds of seeds he uses for targeting carp, and how to prepare each one. Friedel Kirstein went further afield and travelled to Ichingo Lodge on the easternmost tip of the Caprivi Strip. There he had the time of his life catching tigerfish on the Chobe River.

With the current drought countrywide, the Vaal River is at an all-time low. This requires a whole new approach to catching yellowfish. Rohan Koegelenberg explains how. In this issue fly-fishing expert Eben Dowd explains how to tie the Jack’s Hot Cat – a fly that the trout simply cannot resist!

Manie Combrinck waited for a gap in the wind and headed out to see in his kayak. He was in for a great surprise as as sailfish took his live bait, towing him for about 2 km. The beauty of 30-40 kg was too heavy to lift onto his kayak, so he cut the line and watched it disappearing back into the depths to fight another day.
