John Donne once wrote that no one person is an island. Today, that saying rings truer than ever, with science to back it up – that what affects the hive, affects us all. We may be born and die alone, but by nature, people are social animals. How we perceive the world, how we change it or how we think we can change it, how we live, and even how we die, are all impacted by the people around us, and how we relate with them. Not only are we all citizens of the same planet, but we are part of an ever growing community. For these reasons, we have dedicated the Winter 2014-2015 issue to exploring the nature of human relationships of all kinds – from parents and their children, to casual friendships, romantic relationships, professional relationships, to the ones that require safe words.
