The Federal Government’s decision to suspend immediate enforcement of the 5% Petroleum Products Tax has brought some relief to Nigerians already grappling with high living costs. Finance Minister Wale Edun’s assurance underscores a recognition that economic stability and public welfare must remain central to fiscal policy.

While the levy was intended to boost government revenues, its timing risked triggering another inflationary spiral by increasing fuel costs.
