This year (2022) marks the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Tamilnadu. After the epoch-making speech at the Parliament of religions at Chicago, when Swamiji made a triumphant return to our Motherland, he first set foot in Tamilnadu. From Ceylon’s Jaffna he came to Pamban on Jan 26th 1897 then from there he went to Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram Paramakudi, Manamadurai, Madurai and addressed people in those places. Then he went to Trichy, Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. In all these places people thronged to see him.  He stayed in Kumbakonam for 3 days. In these 3 days he visited 3 schools and addressed the students there. The famous Exhortations, ‘Arise! Awake! Stop not till the Goal is reached’, was expressed in one of those talks given in Kumbakonam. Since the days of his inspiring speech at the Parliament of Religions at Chicago, Swamiji had been inspiring his followers to work for the upliftment of people who are poor and downtrodden. Aartha Vipanna seva should be our Goal, he insisted. The ultimate goal of every Human birth should be to realise the divinity within he said. To unravel that divinity this selfless service is the path.  Only when we realise the divinity within, we will be able to realise the spiritual oneness of the whole Universe. The infinite reality, the infinite oneness, which is also a eternal truth. To realise this Swamiji preached the divine nature of Human beings as he wanted people to manifest their potential divinity. The awareness of one’s real nature is a great motive force. Far from making people impractical and irresponsible, it gives man a right attitude towards life.
