What does a magazine aspire to do today? As ELLE DECOR India turns 25 in a world very different from when we began, this is the question we must ask ourselves. From how we design to what we read, everything has changed. And yet, the task remains the same: to capture the zeitgeist on its glossy pages and inspire the future. We turn to Sabyasachi Mukherjee to be our Guest Editor, a personality who has defined the desires of the subcontinent. From this collaboration emerges the origin of the issue, India: Codes of Maximalism. Between the high and the low, this country resounds with a multiplicity of ideas, yet shares a single soul. From bazaars, painted trucks, havelis and places of worship, to personalities such as Princess Esra Birgen Jah, Muzaffar Ali, His Highness Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur and more, the subcontinent comes alive through the people who inhabit it.

Gracing our cover is an embodiment of the country’s magnificent glory: Nilmoni Niketan (or Marble Palace) in Kolkata. The two centuries-old ancestral home of the Mullicks, previously kept away from all publications of the world, opens its doors for the first time exclusively for this cause. Despite housing treasures from across the world, its true beauty, like that of our country, lies in its open heart, offering faith and compassion to the ones who need it most.

As you flip through this archival edition brought together by the best minds of our time, we urge you to reflect on our legacy of abundance, an heirloom we must carry with pride.
