Dear Friends,
Lately, I have been reading a book on thinkers from ancient civilizations. These thinkers
lived over a thousand years ago and were Sumerian, Chinese, Egyptian, Indian, Greek,
Roman, and Phoenician. They were mathematicians, scientists, poets and artists, often
all at the same time.
How can that be, you ask? Well, it was a world that was exploring these disciplines for the
first time. They did not have textbooks, courses and degrees, like we do now. All that came
later. They first began by exploring and observing things around them, experimenting with
them and forming theories. Their studies ranged from the movement of the stars to
inventing the numerals while simultaneously exploring the arts and literature.
They didn’t stop there. Many of them wrote down this new knowledge in books that later
scholars referred to and worked further upon. These SuperBrains included Imhotep,
Aristotle, Ptolemy, Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Zhang Heng, Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, Al-Kindi,
and many more. They were those who laid the foundation for science, maths, literature and
the arts, as we know them today.
The beauty is in the coming together of so many disciplines, so many SuperBrainic ideas.
Where you have observation and analysis on one side, you also have the beauty of language
and arts on the other. This balance is necessary to understand our world as a whole. So, can
you be a SuperBrain too? Perhaps you can, if you explore yourself fully. So when you study
hard for those upcoming exams, don’t forget those other skills that bring you joy and
laughter, that make you ‘you’. All the best!
