この号では

Bangladesh has taken commendable initiatives for low carbon development through controlling GHG emissions though it does not have any obligation for this. Programs for reducing emission in power and industry sectors have already been launched. Own investment would lead to achieving more than targeted 5% emissions reduction by 2030 in power and industry sectors. Availability of foreign assistance can help achieve 15% reduction of emissions even. But unfortunately, Bangladesh is not getting such assistance. Bangladesh has institutional preparedness issues in accessing the GCF, but is not getting any assistance from the world community for making institutions updated. PKSF and IDCOL have got approval for accessing the GCF finance recently, but no fund has been available yet. Bangladesh has started various programs from its own battling for restricting global warming below 1.5 degree Celsius by 2100. There may be some lack of coordination, and inefficiency here. But there can have no semblance of doubt that Bangladesh has firm political commitment for it. Bangladesh can be a model of achievement in emission reduction if it gets the pledged global assistance and support in its endeavor.

Bangladesh is an energy deficit country like other countries in the region and most of the people do not have adequate access to the energy and power. The country is completely dependent on fossil energy source; at the same time, it is one of the most inefficient energy using countries in the world.

It lacks efficiency in planning, management, generation, distribution, load management and even at the end user level consumption.

In spite of the above drawbacks, issues relating to utilization of renewable energy, exploring alternative use of energy, planned use of environment friendly energy are significantly undermined in Bangladesh.

The biggest challenge of Bangladesh is to find a path for balanced growth of its energy sector. Despite its resource constraints, EP dynamically strives to provide theenergy sector with a flow of information and create public awareness; so that policymakers get guidelines and platforms for its sustainable development.
