Look out for some beautiful overwintering birds when you're out and about. Many arrive from the chilly northerly territories of Scandinavia, Iceland and Russia, prompted to migrate south as the temperatures plummet and their food sources become scarce.

The milder conditions, and abundance of berries and seeds on offer in Europe and the UK are a great magnet for many species. So knowing what their favourite foods and preferred habitats are will help you spot them before they return to their breeding grounds in early spring.
