Meet the dad and daughter duo taking social media by storm

During the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, Ben Tate and his 10-year-old daughter Zara began creating lip-sync dance videos on social media to cure their isolation boredom.

And now, nearly six years later, the dad and daughter duo from NSW have become bona fide celebrities with over a billion views and nine million followers on their TikTok and Instagram pages.

“Dadfluencer” Ben, 45, tells Woman's Day he was shocked at how quickly their content went viral online.

“We'd filmed a couple of lip-syncs to the Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way, and one night, my wife Lisa and I decided to share it publicly to see what happens,” he shares. “It was received so well by everyone who saw it, so we decided to keep creating videos as long as it remains fun. Here we are a few years later and it's been an incredible journey.”

WORKING WITH SUPERSTARS

With millions of fans across the globe, including a few very notable names like Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi and rapper Missy Elliott, Ben says going viral online for their videos has been a pleasant surprise.

"Our fans love that we're dad and daughter doing something we love together, and I think our audience sees that in all of our videos," says Ben, who's been an actor since he was nine.

Along with numerous television advertisements, he's also had guest roles on A Country Practice, Home And Away, All Saints, White Collar Blue and Head Start, as well as a lead role on Breakers in 1998 and a minor role in 2004's Somersault.
