Richard READY TO RETIRE?
WOMAN'S OWN
|May 26, 2025
The star admits TV 'doesn't have the punch' it used to, and that he could be keen to move away from London
-

I's hard to imagine the world of TV without Richard Madeley, and he himself has previously described his telly work as a 'tonic'.
But it may be a reality soon, as the veteran broadcaster confesses that he 'hates' getting up early for Good Morning Britain and that TV 'isn't as glamorous' as it was earlier in his career. 'We all hate it, it's never all right when the b****y alarm goes off at four o'clock,' he said, adding, 'I don't think it [TV] quite has the punch that it had in the 60s, 70s, 80s and into the 90s. That's gone.'
The star also admitted he'd happily move back to Manchester – where he and wife Judy Finnigan lived when they hosted This Morning – 'in a heartbeat'.
So after years of the couple clashing over their differing wants – with Judy previously saying, 'I love my quiet life tucked away with my home and family. It's normal and peaceful and, however exciting a job in TV may be, it's never peaceful' – is Richard, 69, finally considering the tranquil life that Judy, 77, desires, away from London and his job on GMB?
Richard has always been passionate about his job, having previously said, ‘Breaking news is catnip to me; I still get a huge buzz out of it.’ But perhaps his outlook has changed.
