I was in my early 20s when I spotted my first grey hair - and I was horrified. I felt like I'd aged 50 years overnight and, in a panic, I booked an immediate hair appointment.

Opting for blonde highlights in my dark brown hair, I hoped it would cover the influx of greys I was convinced were coming. For decades I ordered my hairdresser to colour my hair, terrified of those pesky greys that I'd always been told were ageing.
