Coronation Street

2000 to 2004

Suranne catapulted to fame as factory worker Karen Phillips three years after a one-episode appearance as a different character. The sharp-tongued Weatherfield resident was tough, ambitious and kept viewers in stitches with her witty one-liners. She tied the knot with Steve McDonald, as well as feuding for years with rival Tracy Barlow, memorably threatening her with a stiletto on her wedding day. The role won Suranne a clutch of acting awards as she became a fan favourite.

Scott & Bailey

2011 to 2016

As well as acting abilities, she's also full of ideas, and detective series Scott & Bailey was first thought up by Suranne and her former soap costar Sally Lindsay. Happy Valley creator Sally Wainwright was then brought in to write the show, which followed officers and pals Janet Scott and Rachel Bailey. After Sally fell pregnant, the role of Janet was given to Lesley Sharp, who teamed up with Suranne to make a great crime-solving duo. Rachel battled both sides of the law, from catching killers to being accused of murder herself. Scott & Bailey ran for five series before sadly being cancelled by ITV.
