These cost-free, science-backed hacks will help you avoid temptation and stay trim

Quick tips to help STOP SNACKING

Got no willpower when it comes to delicious, but unhealthy snacks? Absent-mindedly munching through a ‘sharing’ bag of crisps in between meals due to boredom, stress or a mixture of the two, is extremely commonplace. In fact, the average person snacks 21 times each week*. While no crime, snacking can be a real stumbling block when it comes to losing or maintaining weight, as the calories soon start to stack up. Fortunately, you can outwit your cravings with these smart snack hacks. They cost nothing to put in place – you may even save money on all the food you won’t be eating!

Eliminate your triggers

Pinpoint the times you’re likely to snack and change your routine. Most of our snacking happens as a matter of habit. If you usually have a handful of chocolate digestives with your mid-morning coffee, take it outside for some fresh air instead.

Stay hydrated

It’s all too easy to confuse thirst with hunger. If you’re not a fan of drinking plain water, try drinking it hot, which can be more satisfying and comforting at this time of year. Herbal teas also contain no calories and will likewise take the edge off your appetite.

Be treat-wise

Are you known to devour a whole packet of crisps or sweets in one sitting? Fun-sized treats or crisps in packets are better for controlling portions, but if you want to buy in bulk to save money, split the larger pack into mini amounts using food storage bags or small bowls so there’s a physical barrier between you and an unwanted binge.
