Sir Sam's brilliant career speaks for itself, but he remains humble

Growing up in Dunedin in the 1950s, Sir Sam Neill never imagined a future as an international movie actor – let alone walking red carpets and taking home golden statues.
“Coming from a small, obscure town in the furthest away place... there was no moment,” he laughs. “I’m surprised to this day.”
On November 21, however, the Kiwi acting icon will be honoured with the 2025 Screen Legend Award at the New Zealand Screen Awards.
