5 APPS TO GET IN TOUCH WITH NATURE

I'm old enough to remember hiking the Southern California hills for hours and coming home when it got dark, going on two-week backpacking trips with paper maps, and birdwatching with a notebook and binoculars, all with zero digital devices. Times have changed!

These days, our iPhones go everywhere with us, offering new ways to connect with nature. Whether you're going on a camping trip or hanging out in your own backyard, outdoor apps are a great way to enhance the experience. Here are a few of my favorites.

Apple Photos

The first place to start when finding apps for the outdoors is Apple's own Photos app. Of course, you can use the Photos app to take pictures and videos, but there's so much more! Use the Identify feature to put a name to the plants, animals, and landmarks you see. Put your outdoor photos and videos in albums to share with friends and family and create memories to relive your favorite hikes and trips.
