LUCID AIR GAINS TESLA SUPERCHARGER ACCESS—BUT CHARGING SPEEDS DISAPPOINT

Lucid Motors has joined the growing list of automakers enabling access to Tesla's Supercharger network, giving Lucid Air owners a long-awaited opportunity to tap into North America's most expansive EV charging infrastructure.

LUCID AIR GAINS TESLA SUPERCHARGER ACCESS—BUT CHARGING SPEEDS DISAPPOINT

But the rollout comes with a major caveat: the charging speeds are significantly throttled, rendering the experience far less convenient than for Tesla drivers or other EVs with full Supercharger integration.

Lucid confirmed that its vehicles can now connect to Tesla's fast-charging stations via a CCS-to-NACS adapter. However, the actual power delivery rate is far below what the Lucid Air is capable of accepting, leaving early users frustrated by longer-than-expected wait times and reduced efficiency on long-distance trips.

SUPERCHARGER ACCESS—WITH A LIMITER

The Lucid Air, known for its industry-leading range and high-voltage 900V architecture, can theoretically accept charging rates up to 300kW. In practice, early reports show that Lucid Airs charging at Tesla Superchargers are limited to under 100kW, often hovering between 40kW and 60kW—slower than many mid-range EVs currently on the market.

These charging speeds are significantly below Tesla's own vehicles, which routinely reach 250kW on V3 Superchargers. It's also far slower than charging at some Electrify America stations, where Lucid Air drivers have seen performance closer to the car's full capability. The discrepancy raises questions about hardware and software compatibility between Lucid's systems and Tesla's current-generation chargers.
