THE NEW ERA OF AI-GENERATED MOVIES AND SERIES STARTS NOW

Al Cinema

A new chapter in cinematic history is unfolding.

Generative artificial intelligence has moved from experimental novelty to mainstream production tool, reshaping the way movies are made, consumed, and valued. Al-generated cinema is no longer a distant concept; it is here, challenging both the creative process and the business model of modern entertainment.

Netflix has been one of the first major players to embrace Al in content creation. The streaming giant made headlines when its co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, confirmed that the company used generative Al to create final visual effects in The Eternaut, an Argentinian sci-fi series based on a beloved graphic novel. Sarandos revealed that a complex scene featuring a collapsing building in Buenos Aires was completed with Al technology. Traditional production methods would have made the scene impossible within the show's budget. By using Al, Netflix was able to deliver the effect ten times faster and at a significantly lower cost. This moment marked the first time Netflix integrated Al-generated footage directly into a show for audiences worldwide.

Sarandos described Al as a tool that helps creators make “films and series better, not just cheaper.” Early reactions have mainly been positive, with the series renewed for a second season and audiences embracing the result. But the timing of Netflix’s Al adoption is striking. Just two years ago, Hollywood was gripped by intense labour strikes, with artificial intelligence a core point of contention. Writers and actors pushed back against studios’ plans to automate elements of creative work, fearing job losses and the erosion of artistic integrity.
