Don't you worry 'bout a thin

With skinny smartphones suddenly more popular than a Tik Tok dance craze, can Motorola be the first to deliver thin dimensions without battery anxiety?
Measuring in at 6mm (or 5.99mm if you want to get pedantic), the Edge 70 can't claim to be the absolute slimmest smartphone on the block: both the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge have it licked for outright skinniness. But you'll be paying a whole lot less to slip this phone in your pocket. You're also getting more storage as standard, and a much beefier battery.
It definitely doesn't feel like a cheap option, with an aluminium frame that's cool to the touch and a micro-textured nylon material on the rear panel that's great for grip. It also hides fingerprint smudges almost perfectly. The rear camera module bulges out to almost twice the thickness of the rest of the phone, but the transition is subtle.
Contrasting blue accents around the camera lenses and a key dedicated to Motorola's AI efforts on the left side added some welcome character to my appropriately named 'gadget grey' review unit.A significant 20g has also been shed since last year's Edge 60, making this one seriously lightweight handset. I really noticed it – or rather didn't – compared to the phone I normally use.
However, the previous Edge had similar specs, a dedicated telephoto camera... and a lower price. So as with all size-zero smartphones, the big question is whether it's actually worth paying the extra just to shed a few millimetres.
