India’s data centre sector is rapidly emerging as one of the most dynamic growth engines in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, fueled by accelerating AI adoption, hyperscale cloud expansion, and strong enterprise demand. According to Cushman & Wakefield’s Global Data Center Market Comparison 2024 report, India now ranks as the second-largest data centre market in APAC, with 1.6 GW of operational capacity and a robust development pipeline of 3.1 GW under construction and planned.

The report, which analyzes 107 markets worldwide across 24 parameters including real estate, power infrastructure, regulatory environment, and development activity places India firmly among the top three global markets by development pipeline. This growth underscores the country’s rising importance in the global digital infrastructure ecosystem.

India’s data centre expansion is part of a broader global trend, where demand is being shaped by next-generation technologies such as artificial intelligence and the growing scale of cloud computing. As enterprises increasingly rely on data-driven applications, markets with the ability to support high-density computing, reliable power, and rapid deployment cycles are gaining prominence.
