FORTNITE PLAYERS CAN CLAIM $126M SETTLEMENT REFUNDS BEFORE DEADLINE
AppleMagazine
|July 11, 2025
The Federal Trade Commission is distributing over $126 million in refunds to nearly 1 million Fortnite players who faced unwanted in-game charges, part of a $245 million settlement with Epic Games.
-
The payments, announced by the FTC, address allegations that Epic used deceptive practices, like confusing button layouts, to trick players into buying items between January 2017 and September 2022.
The settlement, the largest in gaming history, also tackles issues like children racking up unauthorized charges and accounts being locked after disputes. Eligible players have until July 9 to file claims at www.fortniterefund.com.
The FTC has already sent 969,173 payments via checks and PayPal, averaging $130 per claimant, following a $72 million first round in December 2024. Those who filed valid claims by February 14 don't need to act, but late filers can still apply. The process requires an Epic Account ID or claim number, and players under 18 need a parent or guardian to submit. Epic has since updated its payment system to require explicit consent, aiming to prevent future issues.
This payout, covering players across the U.S., highlights the FTC's push to hold gaming companies accountable. With nearly $200 million already distributed, a third round is expected in 2026 for remaining claims. The deadline looms, so players must act fast to secure their share of this historic settlement.
