APPLE TO OPEN MANUFACTURING ACADEMY IN DETROIT AS IT INVESTS IN U.S. TALENT
AppleMagazine
|August 01, 2025
Apple is launching a new Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, a move aimed at building a skilled U.S. workforce for advanced manufacturing and supporting its broader domestic investment strategy.
-
While the initiative signals Apple's growing interest in nurturing American talent, the company made it clear: don't expect iPhones to be made in the U.S. anytime soon.
The new academy, which will open in 2026, is part of Apple's $100 million commitment to workforce development through its Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI). It will train students and mid-career workers in precision manufacturing, hardware assembly, robotics, and process engineering, with the goal of preparing them for careers in Apple's supplier network and broader advanced manufacturing sectors.
EDUCATION AND JOBSDespite its high-profile U.S. training investment, Apple has no immediate plans to shift core iPhone production to American soil. Manufacturing executives at the company reiterated that the global supply chain efficiency, cost structure, and specialized labor force available in Asia remain unmatched—particularly in regions like China, Vietnam, and India, where Apple already has significant assembly and component operations.
