5G-CONNECTED MACBOOKS, SIGNALING A SHIFT IN LAPTOP CONNECTIVITY

APPLE EXPLORES 5G-CONNECTED MACBOOKS, SIGNALING A SHIFT IN LAPTOP 7 CONNECTIVITY

Apple is reportedly weighing the addition of builtin 5G connectivity to future MacBooks, a move that could transform how users think about laptops and mobile work.

While iPhones and iPads have long offered cellular options, MacBooks have so far relied on WiFi or tethering for internet access. Sources familiar with Apple's roadmap say prototypes of 5G-enabled MacBooks are under development, with the feature potentially debuting later this decade.

WHY 5G MACBOOKS MATTER

For many professionals, the idea of a MacBook with native 5G would close a longstanding gap in Apple's product strategy. Business laptops from Lenovo, Dell, and HP already ship with LTE or 5G modems, appealing to workers who spend hours outside of WiFi coverage. Apple has resisted adding cellular modems to MacBooks, reportedly due to design trade-offs and a belief that iPhone tethering was sufficient.
